Outreach

Disaster Management

We set up a fund, as well as collected clothing, food hampers and building material during natural disasters for Palestine, Pakistan, the Informal Settlement in Kennedy Road – Clare Estate, and Malagazi.

Financial Aid

Financial assistance lent to feeding schemes, winter warmth blanket distribution, bread distribution for a year to Clareville Primary School, and raincoat distribution in rural schools during the rainy season. Collected funds on behalf of Cheshire Home for the mentally and physically challenged. Facilitated renovations for better sanitation for children’s home.

Wheelchair Campaign

We provided over 100 wheelchairs and other aids to people who were not able to afford them and were living in difficulty due to their disability. This was not restricted to Muslims only. Time stood still when the aids were distributed - due to the compassion, gratitude and degree of disabilities witnessed on the day of the distribution.

Eid Feeding Scheme

In 2006 we commenced with an Eid ul-Fitr feeding scheme. We fed 4 000 individuals during the first year, 20 000 in 2007, 37 050 in 2008, 45 000 in 2009, and 100 000 in 2010. This mammoth task is headed by Mr Abdul Razak Moosa, Chairman of the project. We receive requests from indigenous, refugee and local communities in the outlying areas. The meal is delivered to the various areas. Dr Zweli Mkhize was the chief guest at the 2008 Eid Feeding Scheme.

The Maktabah Project

Upon realisation of the large-scale ignorance about Islam and Muslims, the Al-Ansaar Foundation co-founded the Maktabah Project also known as the ‘Library Project’. This project focuses on the equipping of libraries with selected books on Islam and the Muslim World as an effective and creative means of Da`wah (propagation of Islam). There are more than a hundred public libraries in KwaZulu-Natal alone, and the Al-Ansaar Foundation has the mammoth task of supplying each of these with books.

The next undertaking of the Maktabah Project is to ensure that all public libraries are resourced with magazines and periodicals as well as other audio-visual material on Islam.

To date some sixty public libraries have been given copies of the Holy Qur’an and negotiations are underway for the delivery of the first batch of Islamic books, insha’ Allah (god-willing).

The Maktabah Project was adopted by the Al-Ansaar Foundation with a view to create awareness and as a means of Da`wah.
